Bitter Gourd Gojju (semi-liquid gravy dish)

This is a wonder full Recipe from Karnataka! Those who dislike Bitter Gourd ( irrespective of its Health advantages) try this one which is a popular in some region of KARNATAKA.

Ingredience: Bitter Gourd, Green Chillies, Tamarind, Till, (seasam seeds), Rasam Powder,Turmeric Powder, Hing (inguva) plus oil, salt, curry leaves.

Preparation: Cut Bitter Gourd in to three round pieces remove the seeds, then cut in to thin slices and

add salt and turmeric powder on the cut pieces. Stir well and keep it aside.


Take a kadai, dry fry TIL (Dry Fry) and powder it in a grinder.


In a kadai on a low flame put a cup of oil, add muster seeds, hing, one piece of red chilly and a couple of slit green chillies, then  add the cut bitter gourd pieces and fry  till it is soft. Add tamarind water, salt and turmeric powder and two spoons of rasam powder –Stir and allow it to boil for a while.

Take off  from stove and add till powder and stirr it well.

Now it is ready to serve.

Enjoy with hot soft rice with ghee or even with rotis and chapatis too! Good for diabetes and stomach ulcers.


This is good with hot rice or chapati or poori too!
